World Children's Day 2024

World Children's Day, celebrated November 20, was a day full of love, hope, and solidarity.

Beneficiaries of our programming gathered at the Alfajiri Drop-In Center to celebrate World Children's Day. This annual holiday has been celebrated since 1954 to "promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare" (United Nations).

It was a meaningful day, as current street children mingled with Alfajiri-sponsored schoolchildren, graduates, businesspeople, and other community members. This gathering showed our underserved children all the places they can go once they have overcome the afflictions of drug abuse and homelessness. The activities of the day included games, martial arts, dancing, football, painting & drawing, and of course a meal shared by all!

The day was concluded with a special reflection on children's rights led by members of the Alfajiri Staff. It was a moving experience, where children and adults alike were reminded of the fundamental rights that belong to every child and the importance of standing together to protect them. The session was immediately followed by a celebratory cake; baked by our very own Grace!

This day was a powerful reminder that with love, support, and resilience, every child can overcome their challenges and unlock their full potential.
