Access to quality education is something every child deserves in life. Academics have the power to unlock creativity, advance intellect, achieve goals, and ignite success. Unfortunately, thousands of Kenyan children are unable to go to school due to their inability to pay the proper school fees as a result of crippling poverty. School is not free in Kenya, which makes it nearly impossible for many to even contemplate obtaining an education.
Going to school is even more difficult for the street children in the Mathare slum, who have no homes, families, or means of supporting themselves financially. These children live each day with the mindset of mere survival in the streets. As a result of this major educational dilemma within Kenya, Alfajiri seeks out generous donors to support these children and their educational pursuits through the payment of necessary school fees and supplies.
Since Alfajiri was created in 2015, it has supported over 150 children with school fees, a truly astonishing feat. With the continued support of our partners and additional donors, Alfajri can continue helping the street children of Nairobi obtain a proper education and therefore a brighter future free from the hardships of life on the streets.
