Beautifying Mathare
Beautifying Mathare is a youth-led initiative by Alfajiri Street Kids Art that transforms public spaces in Nairobi’s Mathare community through vibrant, locally inspired murals. Created by youth from the streets of Mathare, these works of art are more than decoration—they’re acts of reclamation, identity, and hope. The initiative empowers young artists to take ownership of their surroundings, fosters a sense of pride, and invites the broader community to see beauty where it was once overlooked. By turning walls into canvases, Beautifying Mathare shifts narratives from poverty and neglect to creativity, resilience, and collective transformation.

Mathare Community Kitchen
The Mathare Community Kitchen was developed in response to the devastating floods in 2024. In continuity, nutritious meals are served to hundreds of children and people in the community as a way of creating trust and engagement for empowerment of families. We hope to develop this area of Mathare into a vibrant and safe community where the burdens of poverty are eased and where everyone can gain a sense of hope for the future.
